As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we sat down with our Learning and Development Manager, Joe Milton, to share insight into apprenticeships and the role they play in building careers at Centrick.
Joe shares some valuable perspective in the full Q&A video below, and here’s a summary of his key takeaways.
Is an apprenticeship right for you?
Apprenticeships at Centrick are for everyone. Whether you are at the very start of your career in one of the many departments we cover, or you are already established in a role and looking to take the next step, apprenticeships offer a fantastic opportunity to grow.
They are open to people of any age and provide the chance to learn alongside others in a real working environment. For many people, this hands-on approach is far more effective than purely online learning, which we know is not for everyone.
Do apprentices work full-time or part-time, and how is work balanced with learning and study?
All Centrick apprentices are offered full-time roles, and a percentage of their working week will contribute towards their learning and their studies. This can be project-based, learning new skills, meeting with their tutor or taking part in online courses.
What support do apprentices receive during their training?
Apprenticeships typically include support from a dedicated coach or tutor, provided by the chosen apprenticeship provider and often accessed through online sessions.
At Centrick, we go a step further by prioritising internal support too. Line managers play a key role in supporting apprentices every step of the way.
In addition, apprentices have access to Centrick Academy, an online platform offering a wide range of training courses for all team members, which is supported by our in-house training centre. This helps our apprentices to build new skills, fill any knowledge gaps, and continue progressing their careers. Alongside this, an open forum allows employees to request specific training, keeping learning aligned with real needs and day-to-day impact.
Do apprentices earn a salary, and how much does an apprenticeship cost?
All apprentices earn a salary regardless of whether they are joining us as an apprentice or have chosen to upskill through an apprenticeship course whilst in an existing role. Apprenticeships cost nothing to the individual; they are typically funded by Centrick and backed by the Apprenticeship Levy scheme.
We have strong relationships with a range of apprenticeship course providers to meet the needs of our wide-ranging disciplines.
How does Centrick support career progression during and after an apprenticeship?
On completion of an apprenticeship, Centrick has so far supported every apprentice into a full-time role, where they were not already in one.
We invest in people because we genuinely want them to thrive. By supporting them throughout their learning, we’re able to retain that talent and help individuals grow within a business they already know and feel part of.
Many of our apprentices have gone on to build successful careers at Centrick, progressing into senior roles across the business. Completing an apprenticeship shows commitment, ambition, and a willingness to learn, qualities we value highly when considering internal progression opportunities.
Can apprentices progress into Property Management roles at Centrick?
Absolutely. We have recently launched our Gateway Programme, specifically designed to help people progress into Property Management roles.
The programme combines practical, on-the-job learning with professional TPI accreditations, ensuring apprentices gain both experience and recognised qualifications. We are committed to improving standards across the sector and believe that high-quality, real-world training is essential for such a crucial and wide-ranging role.
What does a long-term career pathway look like for a Property Manager at Centrick?
After completing an apprenticeship and stepping into a Property Manager role, many pathways open up. The skills and experience gained support progression into roles across the business, including Property Integration, Building Safety, Finance, and more.
Because the role is so broad, Property Managers build a strong foundation that allows them to move into a wide range of business areas. It’s a career path that can take you in many different directions across the property industry.
